Where did you read that ???

I was talking about interoperability between GNOME and other sound
servers.. 

You can't expect people (and non GNOME developers) to drop support for
old sound servers just because GNOME does..

If we switch to a new sound system, we should try to fix the remaining
issue we still have with the current sound system (ie being able to
dynamically plug on either ARTS/ESD/ALSA/OSS)..

Again, I've never said that.. 
I said we must be able to interoperate with old systems/softwares..

For example, currently, with esound, you can have both ALSA and OSS
support at the same time => distributors have to disable support for
ALSA since not all sound drivers have an ALSA interface...

We must drain the swap, not fill it again..
