On a related note, we plan to do just the same for gst-register.
There's a simple reason for that - we want to make 0.6 and 0.7/0.8
parallel-installable, but if the binaries are non-versioned then they
need to be able to act on both versions.

This is a sine qua non for providing sane packages, unless someone has a
better idea that we haven't thought of ?
