Yes, my understanding is that the initial/status-quo proposal was a), 
and Ettore suggested we consider b).

People's objection to a) is of course no filesel in GTK for GNOME 2.4.

With these two options the filesel is minimum 9 months out and maximum
12, so I'm not sure it should be the deciding factor.

The only way to get filesel in 6 months will be a), plus some
cut-and-paste code or private library. I mean, we could try for 
"GNOME 2.4 in 6 months, GTK 2.4 in 6 months" but I bet that would end
up just being b).
