Why do we want either of these. What problems are their that having them solve?
Its like me turning up with a program that prints out knitting
patterns and saying "Having this in gnome solves the problem that we
don't have a program to print knitting patterns"

As a project, GNOME needs to work out what we need and then see if
tracker fits the bill. It may be that yes, we do think that we need a
method of accessing metadata. We then need to see what requirements we
need to fill this hole.

Then, and only then, do we evaluate Tracker against these
requirements. Doing it any other way is foolish and dangerous.

The first step would be for all applications that think they could use
integrated desktop search and metadata (note: not a metadata server)
to say what they need from it. Not asking "How they would use tracker"
but what they need the solution to do.

Then after this is all done, they can come to you and see if Tracker
fits their needs.

So yes, that means the RB guys sit down and work out what they want,
the epiphany guys do too and who ever else needs it. In this process,
they can test tracker and whatever other options they think might
work, and then we can see if Tracker is the solution. It will take a
lot longer, but we will end up with software that we actually want to
use, rather than software that we thought was cool and included it so
that we didn't miss out on some perceived features war.
