Re: brltty patch question

Chris,

You don't need to overlay your present working version of brltty. After
you have doenloaded the subversion control system and then the latest
(unreleased) version of brltty, go into the brltty directory, say it is in
your normal user home directory. Then type ./autogen.s
--prefix=$HOME/brlttyx . Whgen augogen.syh finishes, type configure
--enable-api . Then type make. Next type make install. This will install
brltty into $HOME/brlttyx . To run the new brltty, you must be root. I
created a file in my root directory with the name "TB", for "test Brltty".
It contains the one l ine:
/home/chpi-softdev/brlttyx/bin/brltty -b bl

Of course, this file must have execute privileges, and you must replace
the bl at the end of the line with the driver id for your particular
display. Now do "Killall brltty" and then ./tb . If all is well, you will
see BRLTTY 3.3 on your display. If not, you still have your trusty old
brltty to fall back on.

Before you can use brltty with Gnopernicus you must copy the brlapi
server authentication key into your real /etc/brltty directory. Again, you
need to be root. The file is in $HOME/brlttyx/etc/brltty/brlapi-key .

Now you are ready to patch, install and run Gnopernicus. This will not
interfere wouth your access to the text consoles. I am using brltty 3.3
right now and have Gnome running. I can switch from the console in which I
am typing this message to the console on which the X-server is running
with the normal brltty commands for my display. To switch from this
console to a text console, however, you must use control+alt+Fn. The
brltty keystrokes for switching consoles do not work.

Hope this helps.
John
