Quoting from the article "MySQL Introduction" from the November 1999 issue of
_Linux Journal_:

"The overhead of using MyODBC, and probably any ODBC driver, is at least 19%."

I'd prefer to have the option of using a native interface in addition to ODBC
rather than blindly replacing all of the interfaces with something slower by
definition.
