I've noticed this problem when logging into one machine via xdm and then
logging into another machine via gdm as the same user. Both of these machines
share home directories. gdm somehow stomps on the first machine's magic cookie
so I can no longer connect to the X server on the first machine (and receive
this error.) I haven't tried using gdm on both machines (and I'm unwilling to
do that), but using xdm on both machines works fine. I wouldn't put it past a
Red Hat 6.1 problem on the second machine.
