This is the point of my ideas in the first email, a rewrite of esound,
maybe I use my words in bad form. Isn't the time for this rewrite, until
GNOME multimedia applications still small and easy to recode ?

My idea was, each sound API (ALSA, OSS, others os?) is a plugin for new
sound server, and the esound wrapper can be a plugin too.
GNOME claim to be portable to maximum architectures possible, but others
architectures could have others sound API, a plugin system isn't good for
adding new APIs support to the sound server?
