Yes, at least a gnome-wide email configuration occured to me (I
had to check control-center to make sure one didn't exist).  The GOAD
implementation you suggested didn't occur to me (I am not vary familiar
with CORBA/ORBit yet), that would probably be best for GNOME.  Possibly
something like the wm-properties capplet would do, with the user able to
specify a GNOME email reader (balsa) or one managed by the capplet or
another program (for pine, netscape mail, etc.).

This could probably be combined with the configuration of the libmailcheck
configuration, unless that would be too complicated or non-intuitive.
