That reminds me.

What do I do if I have a nice big funky monitor for my machine and
thus have a gnome session set up to make lots of use of space; and
I also want to be able to run that same stuff in GNOME remotely
from a crappier monitor with a more minimalist set-up (fewer and
smaller panels, different themes cos the contrast is whacked-out
etc) -- for the same account?

It seems that I get one place to set all this up, and that's
~/.gnome, and there's no way to say "use .gnome-crapmonitor/"
for one, and "use .gnome-prettymonitor/" for another. Am I
correct, or is there a way around it?
