Functions for making log files ?

Hi 

I wonder if there is any neat function to make log files or do I have to
reinvent the weel again :) Do someone know of a lib or something that
can make my life more easy. I just want a plain ASCII log file that
stores events that happens in my gnome app and later it will be
processed and displayed in a log window !
