cdplayer_applet bug still not fixed?

I see that the cdplayer_applet bug with some CDROM drives which many 
(including myself) have reported still hasn't been fixed.  I've just been 
pinged about it again... is anyone even maintaining it, and if not why is 
it  still included?

(Actually, I don't see my bug report on it anywhere but I see many others 
with similar issues:  not all CDROMs support the audio play mechanism it 
uses)
