GTK devel version has a rich text widget, which uses Pango for fonts
(Pango abstracts the font system, with freetype as one possible
implementation, and also handles i18n details).

Check out the current 'gtk+' module or look at the GTK 2.0 reference
docs on developer.gnome.org/doc/API.
