overriding the icon theme?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way that I can set a custom icon for a 
particular MIME type for just my user account, without changing the system icon 
theme.  This seems to be problematic when there is already a system icon for the 
given MIME type.  I've tried using gnome_vfs_mime_set_icon(), as well as putting 
the replacement icon into ~/.icons, but the system icon seems to override 
whatever I put there.  Any suggestions?
