In fact for all bugs I've opened a bugzilla ticket.
The 1st three complaints in my list are listed in
	http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6621
But others (the last 2 are very important too) are completely unrelated (and
have corresponding ticket).

It's because 'fontset' has higher priority than 'font' in gtkrc file, and
/etc/gtk/gtkrc.iso8859-13 defines fontset with helvetica 12pt in it. Just
removing 'fontset' line from it will cure the problem. I asked Owen to kill
all gtkrc.$LANG files or at least make them not using fontset stupidly a year
or so ago, and the propblem was discussed on gtk-devel-list long ago AFAIR.

It's me who fixed gtk so that all characters have proper width when
/etc/gtk/gtkrc.$LANG is removed (available since gtk-1.2.10).
