Hmmm. Personally, I can see the benefit of a), but b) just strikes me
as wrong. Save As does just that - it saves the document to a file.
"Saving" to another program should (IMHO) involve cut/copy/paste or
Bonobo-esque embedding, which removed the need for b) in the first
place.
I also see a) as a great advantage, but not necessarily b), although I
would have no objection to it being there - I wouldn't have to use it!
However, adding a feature like this seems to be a good opportunity to
improve the Save As dialog, considering GNOME apps are still using the
standard and rather bad Gtk+ one - so either Gtk+ needs a better one, or
Gnome needs to provide its own. The latter would require code changes,
but then the former likely would as well.
Although with any luck there's a good file selector in Gtk+ 2.0 - or
there will be. Anyone know if they're doing this. I hate to say it, but
look at the save and open dialogs in KDE...
