We consiously decided to keep .hidden an expert feature, and not expose
it in the user interface. Being able to hide and unhide a file is a very
strange and uncommon operation. 

The real solution to problems like yours is to somehow get the hidden
attribute from the windows filessystem and hide hidden files.
