IMHO names for extra icons listed in latest comment are fine and spec
compliant.

Maybe you should write to xdg-list too and ask comments from KDE people:
there was some discussion related to mime, places and categories[1]

The definition of icon names are not related to gnome-icon-theme
module...

Most probably he did so 'cause the current plan is put in
gnome-icon-theme _only_ standard icons defined in Icon Naming Spec.
Extra icons should be provided by new - and currently unexisting -
packages (for example gnome-icon-theme-devices or
gnome-icon-theme-mime).

But the plan is finish the standard icons, then provide the extra ones.

Well, if the fallback mechanism works, we don't need to have the extra
icons here and now, right? We can virtually use the in source code,
waiting for pixmaps (and final names).
