I'm not sure combining those applets would be good (people might not
want it to look like a Mac; perhaps they want the status docks on the
left and clock stay on right), but have applets align to the right (or
down in vert panels) would be excellent. It's one of the most annoying
things with setting up applets on a panel, if they resize and move
(i.e., status dock gets more items, it is pushed to left) and then
resizes smaller again, it doesn't move back.

A bug I submitted (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85959)
offered a possible solution. It's definitely not going in for the 2.2
time-frame (I'd be surprised to see it in 2.4), but it would make panel
applets a lot more user friendly, so far as placement goes. Applets
could resize all they needed to, and have the other
applets/launchers/etc. *usually* end up in the right place afterwords.

My proposal isn't perfect (I can think of times it wouldn't work as well
as a user might want), getting some discussion on this topic (perhaps
after 2.2 is out and we have time) would be good, I think.

Not that any of you particularly care what I think. ~,^
