I can confirm this, I got a backtrace today when our DNS server went down
for a power supply check. Startup times went into the 30-60s range, and it
was sitting in a poll() called from gethostbyname().
Hopefully this will clear up the "gnome apps are really slow" problems
people have been seeing.
