They are crufty hacks, and they make everyone in Eastern Europe whine
a lot. (Because people in 8-bit locales frequently do things Wrong and
try to switch between languages by changing font rather than changing
locale.)

They should probably go upstream. It would take some work though.

In the next few weeks one of us has to take on the task of trying to
get all our gnome-core stuff integrated upstream somehow; maybe this
can go in with all that.
