Hmm, if you're using Galeon, it should work they way you want it to
(opening the link in the Galeon process on aquinas).  I *know* it works
that way on Mozilla (which actually annoys me in cases), and I thought
it did on Galeon.  If not, perhaps you should file a bug report on
Galeon.
