It has been suggested before (see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40124), and I assume it is
implementable. I don't know how though, but then again, I'm not a
programmer. :-(

See above. The reason a lot of feature requests get unattended these
days is simply because there are a lot of feature requests, but not near
as many people offering to implement them. I'm not even sure that the
current assignee of the above bug (andy eazel com) still actively works
on Nautilus (his last mail to this list was in August), so a new
volunteer is most likely needed to work on it.
So if you really want this feature and have some time to spare, adding
your information to the bug report above and offering to implement it,
or even looking into it, would be a great help.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think so, since the above bug hasn't
been updated. You're free to update it :-)

Great! Fantastic! Your contribution will be most welcome. Unfortunately,
due to the existing Nautilus hackers being overwhelmed with work on,
among other things, getting Nautilus to work on the GNOME 2 platform,
general help on getting started with Nautilus programming is very
limited. If you have any specific technical questions though, I'm sure
someone on this list will be able to answer.

Again, thanks for offering to look into this!
